Mixed feelings as captains reflect on thrilling Ashes series

There were mixed feelings on both sides when England beat Australia by 69 runs (DLS law) in the third ODI on Tuesday after an exciting Ashes series came to an end at Taunton on Tuesday.

The win gave England a 2-1 victory in the ODI component of the series, but the multi-format series ended in an 8-8 draw after seven games, with Australia retaining the ashes.

After finishing the job for Australia and defending the Ashes trophy, captain Alyssa Healy admitted there was some disappointment in the team’s failure to win both White Ball Series titles.

“There are some different feelings,” said Healy after Australia’s defeat on Tuesday.

“Now I’m proud…we came here to do the job, and although we didn’t quite get it done, we got the trophy back in our hands, that’s the job.”

“We couldn’t cross the goal line with the white ball, but overall I’m really proud of the result of this series.

“I’m sitting here, a little excited and a little disappointed at the same time.”

“The ashes disappeared the other day, and this disappointment has come all at once… I’m just happy and really proud of the team.

‘I would have bit your hand off if you said that to me at 6-0.’ -Old scored more runs than any other player throughout the series (404) and contributed 5 wickets for his exceptional average pace.

Civer Blount’s stylish 129-shot helped England win Tuesday’s most one-sided match in the series and the England all-rounder was rightfully named Player of the Match and the team’s Player of the Series for his innings.

Fellow Australian Ashley Gardner was named in the series composites with 208 runs and 23 wickets, which helped the 26-year-old win the Peden-Archdale Medal.
