India Women’s Tour of Bangladesh 2023: All you need to know

The Indian women’s cricket team will be returning to action when they travel to Bangladesh to play three T20Is and as many OD

After captaining various teams in the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL), Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandana saw India take on Bangladesh in a three-game T20I series, followed by three games in Bangladesh. The team will be formed in the ODI series that will be held. It will be the Indian side’s first appearance since losing to Australia in the T20 World Cup semi-finals in February.

By the way, India and Bangladesh faced each other in the warm-up match before the opening of the World Cup. Richa Ghosh made a valiant 91* on 56 balls and Jemima Rodriguez also scored 27 on 41 as India went 183/5 on 20 overs.

Bangladesh, by contrast, only reached 131/8 and lost by 52 runs. As for the ODI, the last time Bangladesh faced India was at the 2022 ODI World Cup. India then won by 110 runs in 50 overs with a score of 229/7.

It goes without saying that India will start as an overwhelming favorite for both the T20I series and the ODI series. However, Bangladesh hopes to put its knowledge of the domestic situation to good use. All six matches will be played at the Sherrebangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur.

Notable names missing from the ODI and T20I squads of India include pacer Renuka Singh, wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh and spinner Radha Yadav. Players like Anusha Baledi and Rashi Kanojiya have been nominated in both formats for the first time.

Another player called for the first time is Minnu Mani (T20I only). Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named an interim team for the home series. Interestingly, experienced players like Jahanara Alam and Rumana Ahmed have not found a place in the team. Instead, some impressive youngsters like Shorna Akter, Marufa Akter, and Rabeya Khan have been brought into the side with an eye on the future.
