The recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has been the scene of much controversy. But one of the biggest events was the verbal altercation between Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq/Gautam Gambhir.
Game 43 of the 2023 IPL saw the Lucknow Supergiants take on Royal Challengers Bangalore at Ekana Sports City Stadium. But the biggest highlight of the match was when Kohli and Gambhir got into a heated argument. The altercation began with an altercation between Mr. Kohli and Mr. Naveen-ul-Haq and escalated when Mr. Gambir took the stage.
Reflecting on this infamous incident, Pakistani hitter Ahmed Shehzad has spoken out on the issue. The 31-year-old defended Mr Gambhir, saying he did it out of jealousy and was only trying to create more controversy with Mr Kohli.
“I was very hurt as a spectator and as an athlete. It seemed as if Gautama Gambhir was going to do something out of jealousy. It was like I was waiting for something to happen,” Shehzad said on Nadir Ali’s podcast.

“I was really sad to see an episode like this. It is understandable for Kohli to argue with an Afghan player (Naveen ul-Haq) because such things happen in the blink of an eye. Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambir and Naveen-ul-Haq were all fined heavily after the incident. Kohli and Gambhir were fined 100 percent of the game fee, while Naveen was fined 50 percent.
